Imagine a bag that transcends trends and history. A bag steeped in rich fashion and pop culture heritage. A bag that stands the test of time. A bag that elevates even the plainest of outfit.
That's the 'It' bag in a nutshell. The name's pretty self-explanatory. It just has.. 'it'. There have been plenty of 'It' bags released over the illustrious history of luxury fashion, but we've curated 5 bags that have truly made a strong impact and stood the test of time.
Hermes Birkin
The Hermes Birkin has been covered many times by our team over here at Honest Crafters, and for good reason. Some might say it's the most 'it' bag ever released. Having been worn by the likes of Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian & Kate Moss, the bag is been widely coveted by the rich and famous for its iconic status. It also enjoys its status as the most expensive resold bag in the world, with a 2014 Birkin with white "Himalaya" crocodile skin adorned with 18 karat gold buckles and diamond-encrusted strap loops selling for a whopping US$380,000 in 2017.

Chanel 2.55
Some might say that the Chanel 2.55 is representative of Coco Chanel's legacy. After all, it's release came at a time where innovation was much desired in the fashion industry. The impact of the bag can be seen in its name, which is its creation date - it can't get any more significant than that.
It was the first bag to possess a strap, which changed the way bags were made forever. Coco Chanel was quoted as saying, “I got fed up with holding my purses in my hands and losing them, so I added a strap and carried them over my shoulder.” Since then, celebrities from the likes of Blake Lively and Sarah Jessica Parker have been spotted carrying this iconic piece of fashion history.

Balenciaga City
The Balenciaga City Bag is, to some, what defines Balenciaga. It encapsulates the edgy yet stylish direction that Balenciaga is known for. Compared to other bags, however, its still relatively new compared to its other iconic peers - having only been introduced in 2000. However, what truly launched the bag into the stratosphere wasn't it's look or features - rather, it's through creative director Nicolas Ghesquière's persistence.
Giving free bags to celebrities such as Sienna Miller and Kate Moss, the bag soon became a huge hit within the celebrity scene and eventually the fashion world. The bag is available in a plethora of colours and variations - just like how Balenciaga likes to do it.

Dior Lady Dior
The Lady Dior is one of the most coveted and popular handbags of all time - all thanks to its association with Princess Diana. Having launched with no official name, the bag was nicknamed Chouchou (favourite in French) and was given as a gift to Princess Diana by Bernadette Chirac, France's First Lady, in 1995.
Princess Diana soon became a huge advocate for the Lady Dior, having been seen and photographed with the bag on many official occasions. This, coupled with the Princess's status as the most publicized woman in the world, only served to amplify the bag's popularity. The bag was eventually named officially as 'Lady Dior' in 1996 as a tribute to the Princess, and it continues to be an essential addition to any fashion lover's wardrobe even today.

Gucci Jackie
The Gucci Jackie has been reinvented many times over, keeping it relevant for modern tastes while staying grounded in its iconic roots. It takes its name from former US First Lady Jackie Kennedy, having shielded herself with the bag from the paparazzi in an iconic photo taken of her.
And the rest, they say, is history. The photo, coupled with Kennedy's public presence, vaulted the bag to fashion superstardom. It is still a top seller in Gucci's catalogue to this day and for good reason - it's still one of the most functional and stylish bags around.
