The fashion industry is huge, and there are many different types of luxury bags that exist across various brands. Trust us - we've seen them all across our daily operations over here at our studio.
In this special edition of #HonestTips, we're here to break down the common types of luxury bags we come across at HC, so that you'll be better able to identify them! This is especially handy when you're assessing or purchasing a bag.
Baguette Bag
Take a French baguette and a handbag, and you get the baguette bag! Named after the bread which it resembles, its fairly compact shape and short straps allow it to become a great companion for a classier outfit. However, it may be a bit too large for proper formal gatherings and should be worn with something with a more eclectic feel.
Remember Sex and the City? This bag was popularized by Sarah Jessica Parker, making it one of the very first 'it' bags! The Fendi baguette is one of the most popular variants of the baguette bag, and it is also one of the most common bags we encounter at the studio.
Bucket Bag
The bucket bag provides ample room for storage while being less clumsy to carry around. Its loose feel due to its less firm sides, as well as its drawstring closure and long strap, make it a great companion to more casual outfits. Bonus points if you're going for something Bohemian.
One of the most famous variants of the bucket bag comes from New York luxury brand Mansur Gavriel, which pushed the bucket bag to new heights of demand and popularity upon release 4 years ago.
Crossbody Bag
The crossbody bag is probably the most versatile and varied type of bag. Taking its name from the very long strap used to hang across the body from the shoulder, crossbody bags tend to be on the smaller side due to the need to provide balance with the long strap. With that said, many variants and designs of the crossbody bag are available, giving you plenty of choices to see which pairs best with a casual or dressier outfit.
The Yves Saint Laurent Vicky is usually one of the best and most popular choices for a crossbody bag - its sleek and simple design makes it a timeless classic.
Clutch
The clutch is perhaps one of the most identifiable bags ever made. Its unique strapless design forces the wearer to 'clutch' the bag in their hands, giving it its name. The bag is most commonly worn with formal wear, adding a feminine and light touch to a classy look. Its slim and flat design doesn't weigh on the outfit, making it an essential addition to any female wardrobe.

Some satchel bags may have a top that folds over, with a clasp closure. Satchel bags also come with both a long strap and a handle to give you choice and versatility as to how you'd like to carry it.

Shoulder bag
A shoulder bag is another type of bag that isn't really a type - rather, it refers to any sort of handbag that is designed to be worn on the shoulder with a strap. Usually, shoulder bags come in medium and large sizes, due to the fact that their straps aren't long enough to suit being worn crossbody, whose bags usually come in small sizes. Shoulder bags aren't usually meant for classier affairs, but the design and type of the bag decide which outfit pairs best with it.
With so many shoulder bags around, it's hard to pick an essential shoulder bag - but we'd like to think the Hermes Kelly stands a good chance. After all, it's widely considered to be one of the most famous and well-designed bags ever made!
